Former CMS leader Slavitt joins AVIA in senior advisor role
Slavitt brings to AVIA extensive healthcare policy insights to help the organization understand new opportunities for additional services that changes in policy might create, according to a spokesperson.
Slavitt plans to focus on transforming patient care at AVIA. Previous to his time at CMS, he served as group executive vice president at Optum and as CEO at Health Allies, an Internet-based consumer healthcare marketplace.
AVIA is a facilitator with a network of participants and has been operating for two years. It does not describe itself as either an incubator or accelerator.
For example, one cooperative effort that AVIA facilitated was among hospitals to solve problems related to care coordination in the 90 days following treatment. Solutions focused on improving clinician-patient communication, getting the right follow-up care, improving workflows, automating nurse rounding by using iPads (which improved quality scores and saves nurses 30 minutes a day) and improving the patient experience.
AVIA currently has more than 20 health systems in its network. Information on the company is available here.
